CALLINGTON HERITAGE CENTRE

The Centre is situated in the former chapel building on Liskeard Road, Callington. It opened on 2nd June 1994 and modernised and re-launched on 22nd July 2006. Unfortunately it was the subject of a devastating fire in March 2007 and did not open for that season. Previewing the exhibitonDue to the fire brigade most of the archive was saved albeit with smoke and water damage, however there is still some chapel china that need professional restoration and we are trying to raise the £5000 towards this. We re-opened in 2008.

Our interests span all aspects of the social and economic history of Callington and the surrounding parishes. As well as being a place of interest to visit, the Centre aims to provide a resource for those interested in our local history, whether professional or enthusiast. It also welcomes visits from local schools, youth groups, and any others.

We are an entirely voluntary organization, all stewards are volunteers and entry to the Centre is FREE, this includes use of the computer for research purposes. Our only source of income to assist with the maintenance of the collection is our memberships, sales and donations. If you would like to help support this work, please see our supporters' page

VOLUNTEERS

The Centre can only be open due to our volunteer stewards. If you would like to volunteer please use the ‘Contact Us’ link above. All that is required is three hours a month, novice volunteers are always put with more experienced stewards to start with. Being a steward is an ideal way of finding out exactly what the centre has and perhaps doing a bit of your own research as well during quiet moments. We always welcome volunteers who would like to do some transcribing, are computer litereate, or would be interested in the conservation aspects of the collection.
