Exhibitions for 2012

Easter to mid-July
An Edwardian Photographer

In the middle of the Edwardian era Reginald Gimblett moved to Callington from Calstock and established his photography business. His grandson. Terry, rescued ninety old photographic plates of the period and with the assistance of modern technology has now brought these back to life – and they are amazing!

Our first display features fifty of these photographs, along with information on other shops that would have been around at the time. There is a display on ironmongers, and one on shoe and bootmakers as well as a Gimblett display featuring cameras and old photographs.

Mid-July to end of October
Edwardian Life in Callington

Whilst we will still feature some of the Gimblett photographs we will provide more details on Edwardian life, with a tableau of an Edwardian kitchen and one on Fore Street with the appropriate fashions. Displays will feature the daily items of life in that era that have since disappeared.

These exhibitions are supported by a brand new publication entitled 'Edwardian Callington', this is available on sale at the Heritage Centre or on the 'Publications' link to the left.

All- Season Exhibitions

In addition to the above there will be four small exhibitions that will run for the season. As mentioned above there will be a display of cameras and photography. We celebrate the Prim-Raf being sixty years old with a display of memorabilia This year the book 'Callington Doctors' has been published after several years research, so we have a display of medical artefacts to accompany this. Finally there is a feature on arsenic mining as this was produced by nearly all the mines in the area.
